Brewery Beat

Columbus Brewing Company revealed plans for new branding, including new bottles and labels. The brewery is expanding later this year into a 50,000 square-foot production facility with a 30bbl brewhouse. Smokehouse Brewing Company hired a new brewer, Sam Hickey. Hickey is a Central Ohio native who most recently worked as the assistant brewer at Mystic Brewing in Massachusetts, where he was involved in the creation of many unique beers, including Mystic’s Great American Beer Festival gold-medal-winning beer, Vinland 2. Zauber Brewing Company announced a partnership with Columbus Distributing. The distributor will help the nearly three-year-old brewery expand into bars and restaurants in the area.

Drinking Days

The second annual, and unfortunately-for-you sold out, High-Gravity Hullabaloo will take place February 7 in Grandview. The next Beers and Board Games meetup is slated for February 17 at Wolf’s Ridge Brewing’s new taproom. Smokehouse Brewing’s biannual Oysters & Stouts showcase is happening February 26, while Crafted Drafts has an Elevator Brewing beer tasting scheduled on February 27.

Craft Beer Week

The first Columbus Craft Beer Week has been scheduled for May 1-9. The week (ok, it’s nine days) will feature tap takeovers, beer dinners, educational opportunities, and specialty beer releases, including six original collaborations between 16 Central Ohio breweries. On May 9, Craft Beer Week will culminate in a beer festival titled Six One Pour, taking place, appropriately, in the Brewery District.
