Autumn Bomb(s)

Fall seasonal beers don’t have to be packed with pumpkin – ‘tis also the season for Oktoberfests and fresh hops! Here are three bombers to pick up at your nearest bottle shop. Enjoy while wearing a sweater and diving in a pile of leaves.

Elektron (Amber/Red Ale), The Actual Brewing Company

September is the time for hop harvests, and this year Actual Brewing used freshly picked Ohio hops to craft a wet-hopped version of its Elektron ale. The freshness in this local rye-flavored amber makes it perfect for fall.

The Kaiser (Imperial Oktoberfest), Avery Brewing Company

The Kaiser takes a traditional Oktoberfest and kicks it up a notch or 10 in this imperial version, with a massively malty backbone and an equally massive ABV (10 percent). Sweet caramel and toffee flavors combine with hop spice to make one PROST-worthy brew.

Warlock (Imperial Stout), Southern Tier Brewing Company

OK, OK, I have to include at least ONE pumpkin beer. Crafted in contrast to Southern Tier’s other (and more popular) pumpkin brew, Pumking, Warlock is a touch less sweet, an Imperial Stout with roasty coffee flavors and a lingering pumpkin pie finish.
