Fashion with a Purpose

For Julie Wilkes, fitness is personal. After overcoming a heart condition and defeating a life expectancy of 12, Julie is a walking inspiration. She found fitness at a young age as a way to strengthen her heart, and after her first marathon at the age of 25, she knew her life was meant for something big.

In June 2013, Julie was a winner of KickStart Columbus, a contest for entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses. It supplied her with free space Downtown and more importantly, a means to launch a dream, Seven Studios. Seven offers yoga, pilates, fitness, life-coaching and inspirational retreats.

And for Julie, fashion plays a large role in her personal and professional fitness. In both aspects of her life, she uses funky clothing (and lots of Lulu) and jewelry to “live into the part” she plays. Whether she’s teaching yoga, barre or enjoying her own workout, she’s dressing the part.

“Fashion has to be fun, functional and feel good,” she says. “The three Fs!”
