You Know, 'For The Kids'
Local DJ hosts annual charity event

It seems like Andy "Andyman" Davis has been putting in a 48-hour shift the weekend before Christmas since the dawn of time. It turns out that it's only been 17 years.
What started off as a young DJ volunteering to cover the dreaded Christmas shift for the entire staff quickly evolved into a charity stunt, expanding from 24 hours to 48. Later, it was moved to the weekend prior to the holiday. It wasn't even supposed to go on this long.
"I was going to do it until I had kids," said Andyman, "because I'd want to spend the holiday with them. But now I have kids, and I do it anyway."
The object, in case you've been under a rock or you're just not cool enough to handle independent radio, is to call in, make a donation, and request a song. The more you donate, the faster Andyman gets to your request. Proceeds go to CD101 For The Kids, which channels that money to a number of local charities that benefit children. Andyman is loathe to pick a favorite but he confides, "Homeless Families Foundation holds a tender place in my heart."
There's also an eBay.com auction leading into the Andyman-a-thon, which starts on December 11th and will close throughout the day on December 17th. Items up for grabs include CDs, drum heads, guitars, and other funky swag signed by CD101 artists.
Andyman doesn't set a specific goal, but he likes to average about a grand an hour, and they seem to accomplish that. It's gratifying, but Andyman is quick to give credit to the volunteers who man the phones, the bands that rock the CD101 Big Room (a schedule will be posted on CD 101's website), and all the people who help keep him awake.
Andyman will take to the airwaves at 7 p.m. on December 18th and stagger out, bleary-eyed with coffee oozing out of his pores on the 20th.
Listeners are encouraged to call in and make donations over the phone - (614) 221-1011 - but CD101 For The Kids will take donations anytime at:
