The all-powerful Ohio State University has recently taken notice of the Elevator Brewery's Bleeding Buckeye Red Ale bottles. If the Brewery doesn't immediately cease production and sales of this product and repay all revenues made from previous sales of this product, the copyright lawyers will huff and puff and blow the little brewery down.
Bakery Gingham will be opening in a new location in the Short North (647 N High St.), before the end of this year. The delicious cupcakes must be in high demand - the German Village location (189 Thurman Ave.) was opened less than a year ago. All of the same treats will be offered at the new location, scheduled to open mid-November. We may not have a strong economy right now, but we can still eat cake: darling, personal-sized cakes.
The corner of Gay and Third Streets seems to be going through coffee shops faster then Brangelina can pick up kids. Coffee and More closed after a few months of business; now the location (100 E Gay St.) will be reopened as yet another coffee shop. Rendezvous Cafe is trying their luck as the third coffee shop to grace the space, Cornerstone Coffee being the first. The new cafe will also feature an interesting menu, from pastries to Caribbean curry.
Burgers and hot dogs seem to be getting a lot of attention these days from new restaurants. The owners of Lola and Cinco just opened Hamburger, Hot dogs, and Fries, and will serve just that during lunch hours at their downtown location (20 N High St.). Either these people have been sucked into a pyramid scheme of buying restaurants, or downtown really does need Italian food, burgers and hot dogs, and Mexican food all in less than a one-block radius for lunch.
September saw the addition of a new Graffiti Burger location in Grandview (1505 W Fifth Ave.). This small burger-and-fries shop is quietly gaining popularity and momentum throughout the city.
Just the other day, someone told me to try Noodles Italian Restaurant (1648 E Dublin-Granville Rd.). Unfortunately, I don't remember who this person is, but I must break it to them and anyone else interested, that Noodles closed in October.
The Buckeye Hall of Fame will be moving soon after football season and hopefully be out of the red by the end of the year. The Olentangy River Road location will then become a motel, SpringHill Suites.
The Gateway location of the Happy Greek closed in September. The restaurant location in the Short North was sold quickly when one of the owners was arrested for mortgage fraud and sentenced to four years in prison. For now, it seems that both of the restaurateurs are completely out of business, although the Short North location is still open.
Rosendales, a long-standing name in local dining, has closed all three of their Short North restaurants (793 N High St.) - Rosendales Modern Bistro, Upstairs at Rosendales, and Details. This closing came somewhat suddenly, supposedly due to a significant decline in sales since Chef Rosendale's departure.
