Autumn Wine Celebration
Date: September 11
Charity: National Center for Adoption Law and Policy (NCALP)
Location: The Loft at the Smith Brothers Building
Contact Information: (614) 236-6537

Step into a land Chihuly would admire as local non-profit glass art studio, Glass Axis, lavishly garnishes NCALP's Seventh Annual Autumn Wine Celebration. And with wine-tasting, gourmet eateries, live music and a silent auction, it promises to be an evening of urban elegance, set against the twilight backdrop of downtown Columbus via the newest space at the Smith Bros. Building. All proceeds raised go to support NCALP's education, information resource, and advocacy programs.

2009 Columbus Buddy Walk
Date: September 13
Charity: Down's Syndrome Association of Central Ohio
Location: Columbus Crew Stadium
Contact Information: (614) 263-6020 or buddywalk@dsaco.net

Buddy Walk gives new meaning to kid-friendly as they host a menagerie of fun for your little tykes including the Crew Cat, face painting, Sparky the Firedog, clowns, tailgating (okay maybe that's a little more for the adults), and inflatabounces. Over 4,000 people trekked the one-mile Buddy Walk last year to raise awareness and funds. Do it in 2009 and get the hook up with discounted Crew tickets for the October 25th game.

Black Ribbon Benefit
Date: September 13
Charity: Melanoma Research Foundation
Location: The Lodge Bar
Contact Information: (614) 946-6790 or kbrennan20@hotmail.com

Your prime addiction to silent bidding on auction items will be appeased at this year's benefit. Bid on items such as a pair of round-trip AirTran tickets and signed OSU or BlueJackets paraphernalia. Drink specials and catered food from Arena District restaurants will motivate your second addiction into full force. Visit www.blackribbonbenefit.org for details.

Mardi Paws
Date: September 18
Charity: Capital Area Humane Society
Location: The Hyatt Regency
Contact Information: (614) 777-7387, ext. 233

Giving the gumbo and parade a rest, Mardi Paws assures an evening of barks and beads! C-bus musicians, The Hoodoo Soul Band, whose show was ranked on CitySearch.com's Top 10 Things to Do in Columbus, will bring the funk and jazz. In its 21st year, the event helps the Humane Society shelter thousands of animals each year, place in homes and provide animal assisted therapy to children and seniors at local hospitals and retirement homes.

Santa in September
Date: September 19
Charity: Ohio Pug Rescue
Location: Whitehall Community Park
Contact Information: (614) 218-6671

Get a handle on this year's holiday cards. Step One: Grab reindeer ears, a Santa cap or a necklace of jingle bells. Step Two: Use massive amounts of adhesive to secure one of the aforementioned to your pet. Step Three: Take them to Santa in September so your cutie-patooty pet can sit on Santa's lap. Step Four: Go to Kinko's and make enough copies so everyone from Aunt Emma in Topeka to Cousin Mikhail in the Ukraine can marvel at your baby.

Black Tie Ball
Date: September 19
Charity: Nationwide Children's Hospital Behavioral Health Services
Location: Scioto Country Club
Contact Information: (614) 464-5626

Got to love a party where you can make money. This year's Black Tie Ball's financial opportunity comes from a side program called "Gold for Good." Partygoers bring in old gold jewelry and have it appraised on the spot for cash value while 10 percent goes to Nationwide.

The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix & Family Day
Date: September 27
Charity: Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence
Location: Grounds of Wexner Residence, One Classic Drive
Contact Information: www.thenewalbanyclassic.com

Upset you didn't get to live out your National Velvet dreams? Finally get a closer look (sans Tatum or Elizabeth) as thirty North American top riders compete in an internationally sanctioned show-jumping Grand Prix. For those of you with hippophobia, (an extreme fear of horses), a carnival full of rides, a petting zoo and performers should take the edge off. If not, American Idol's youngest winner Jordan Sparks might soothe the savage beast. Hint for first-timers: No tickets sold at the gate.

Eagles for Epilepsy
Date: September 28
Charity: The Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio
Location: Oakhurst Country Club
Contact Information: (614) 358-0874

You've seen the PGA championship, you've experienced the U.S. Open; while you're waiting in anticipation for the next Ryder Cup, hoist your golf clubs on your back for a couple rounds of golf to benefit the Foundation.

Parent support groups, free school nurse training and week-long summer camps for kids with epilepsy are just a few of the free-of-charge services the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio provides.
