Barley's
(467 N. High St.)
Before I became the Professor of Patios I was a beer snob and one of my favorite Hop stops is Barley's. Sometimes I start the night with a couple of hand-pulled pints but usually it's a mid-hop hit for me as I park up near Fifth, work my way down one side of High and back up the other.

Middle West Distillers
(1230 Courtland Ave.)
Much anticipated is the release of Columbus' first (legal) craft-distilled spirit, Oyo Vodka. This is a unique enterprise because Ohio's Puritanical liquor laws make it next to impossible to open a distillery. Micro-distilled vodkas are a little different; they aren't as sanitized, so expect something with distinct taste. It could become one of Columbus' signature flavors.

Mikey's Late Night Slice
(1030 N. High St.)
Yeah, I've mentioned LNS before and they're still a great place to grab a hot slice of 'za and a cold can of Faygo. Yeah, Faygo. In a can, fool. Deal. Anyway, during the Hop, you're likely to be treated to some makeshift performances by local bands, including "The Shrewdness of Apes," who sound like what you'd get if Nancy Wilson and Charlie Daniels had triplets and let Patti Smith babysit.

Kiaca Gallery
(941 N. High St.)
Kiaca is always an worthwhile stop on the Gallery Hop. The underlying goal is to reveal the connection between African-American and continental African culture. It's one of the city's larger galleries and artists are often on hand to discuss their work.

Mahan Gallery
(717 N. High St.)
July's exhibit should be interesting. Penny Pinch features 10 works from 10 artists. Each work is under 24x24 inches and priced at $200. The general idea is to get people to start collecting. Even if your walls are reserved for family photos, novelty calendars and concert posters, this exhibit will feature a wide selection of art that touches on a number of styles and mediums. Very cool.
