On the Level
After months of speculation and rumor, the truth is out there: the old R.J. Snappers will soon be transformed into an exciting addition to the Short North's restaurant and bar scene. Level (700 N High St.) is scheduled to open its doors this month with an invitation-only preview. Post-renovation, Level will be a 6,000-square-foot multi-level bar with an extensive Modern American menu and plenty of upscale adult beverages, sporting an atmosphere touted as 'Manhattan Chic' by the owners in a release. Visit www.levelcolumbus.com for details.
Comidas Nuevo
The space that Trattoria La Tavola (6125 Riverside Dr.) used to occupy is now signed, sealed, and delivered into the hands of some local restaurant veterans from the Historic Dublin Restaurant Group. They plan to open their family/value friendly Mexican themed restaurant by mid-June.
Hot dogs, lassi, and coffee
Coffee and More just opened downtown (100 E Gay St.) in place of Cornerstone Coffee. The owner, a native of Bangladesh, will present hot dogs, pastries, sandwiches, and cereal, along with some traditional Bangladeshi menu offerings such as lassi (a chilled fruit and yogurt drink) and chai (spiced tea).
Locally grown, locally owned
More budget-friendly casual comfort food places are on the way, as well. Ginna's Eatery (4408 Indianola Ave.) just opened in Clintonville, along with Local Roots (15 E Olentangy Ave.) in Powell. Both businesses plan to buy as many local and organic products as possible and will make most of their menu items from scratch.
Jimmy V's
Jimmy V's is expanding with a new location in Westerville (1 S State St.). The aesthetically pleasing bar and waterfall will also find their way into the Westerville location. Unless they depart drastically from their brand, the menu will likely be comprised of Classic Americana with a few Greek and Albanian favorites, such as gyros and hummus.
Sandella's Flatbread Cafe
Sandella's Flatbread Cafe, a chain out of Connecticut, will open at Polaris this summer. Two more of the soup, salad, and panini shops are expected to open in the next five years. This promises to be the biggest export from Connecticut since the Bush Family.
Fozzie's
A new pizza place will be opening up in Olde Towne East. Fozzie's (892 Oak St.) is scheduled to open by June. This first-time pizza entrepreneur will be receiving the help of the Bono Pizza guru, Bill Yerkes, in building his pizza oven.
Holy sweet airborne octopi, Batman!
The Chocolate Octopus recently closed their New Albany location and expanded their production in Port Columbus International Airport. No bags or cavities are checked on your way into the chocolate store, in case you don't want to wait for your next flight to partake of these gourmet treats.
