Published September 1, 2011Last month, the second annual Taste of Columbus took place high atop the city on the Renaissance Hotel’s open-air pool deck. A collection of Cbus’ finest restaurants and patrons got together for a sumptuous evening of nibbles and sips, all to benefit OhioHealth’s Defining Moments campaign for cancer care at Riverside Hospital. While only in its second year, this event has fast become a seasonal highlight for foodies and philanthropists alike. Chefs from such favorites as G. Michael’s, Basi Italia, Knead, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and The Refectory put their best plates forward to satiate the crowd. Tasty morsels included criminally tender flank steak skewers from Barcelona and precious baked brie hearts from host restaurant Latitude 41. Chef Mike Black served up cool cucumbers topped with a cloud of goat cheese from the Black Creek Bistro table. Middle West Spirits, Tessora Limone and Brothers Drake meadery provided much needed refreshment on the hot evening. All in all, the night drew over 250 people and raised $13,000. Raise a glass to the delicious success.

September is a bittersweet month; the cooler nights are a relief from the hot, hot heat, while at the same time signaling the end of the growing season. To celebrate all that the earth has bestowed upon us during the summer months and to provide funds for local garden education to continue, the Franklin Park Conservatory is once again throwing its annual From Field to Table event. On September 16th, the grounds of the Conservatory will be filled with more than 600 guests eager to enjoy dishes made with local ingredients. For tickets, go to www.fpconservatory.org
